My number one concern when out on a shoot is safety. So finding a place to avoid too much attention can be tough. China Beach is great because it is pretty isolated and is never too busy.

I have a couple of observations and learnings from this one.

First, I was planning on using a two flash set-up, however having my equipment spread out while with the talent is asking to be robbed. So I aborted the flashes and went 100 percent natural light.

Second, the sun was still pretty high in the sky so I had to be careful with the shadows.

And lastly, sometimes when moving from one side of the model to the other the white balance would change a little more than slightly. I shoot raw, so making changes in post can be done, however it’s always best to capture the image exactly how you’d like the image to look.
